Strengthening the Inner Woman - Developing Personal Resilience

Participants can gain an understanding of stress reactions, what makes individuals resilient, the environmental impact on coping skills and how to use the skills of stress management and groundedness to manage their own and others' stress. 

The talk will include:

  • The effects of stress on the body and mind (mood, attention and decision-making)

  • What is resilience, burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma?

  • External factors that impact on resilience and coping

  • Finding your own internal strengths and weaknesses to help build your resilience

  • Maintaining your own resilience in uncertain or stressful environments

In addition, the benefits for women of the Transcendental Meditation® technique to reduce stress and increase inner resilience will be presented by Heather Lorenzon , Co-Director TM for Women. Heather will present recent research carried out in South Australia and published in the Journal of Family Violence on the benefits of TM for women affected by Domestic Violence -https://rdcu.be/dad0E (Transcendental Meditation for Women Affected by Domestic Violence: A Pilot Randomised, Controlled Trial).


About Jenny

Dr Jenny Ellsion is a Clinical and Counselling Psychologist who holds current registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society. Her PHD was on “Personality and workplace conflict” and she has presented papers on her research at a variety of Workplace Conferences including the Bullying in the Workplace Conference in Milan, Italy (June 2014); LEADR conferenced from 2009 as well as at the National Mediation Conference held in Australia since 2008.

Over the last 25 years, she has specialised in one on one counselling, conflict resolution; training in mediation skills; psychological assessment (clinical, emotional intelligence and career development); and training and group facilitation on a range of organisational issues. I have consulted in a range of government, private and educational organisations.

My clinical interests are relationship building, resilience, dealing with workplace conflict, working with inflexible people, anxiety and depression. I have found my regular TM practice of over 40 years has brought much creativity, stillness and dynamism to my work and those around me.
